07/04 – Brazil drops 20 percent ethanol tariff through 2011; pressures US to follow suit
07/04/10 – In Brazil, the national government has proceeded with a plan to drop a 20 percent tariff on imported ethanol through 2011, generally considered a move designed to clear obstacles to dropping the US tariff on imported Brazilian ethanol. The US ethanol lobby group Growth Energy commissioned a report from IHS Global Insight which determined that the impact of dropping the US tariff would be a 30 cent drop in corn prices and the loss of 160,000 jobs. Domestic Fuel is reporting on this and other Growth Energy-sponsored studies. |
